Currency
The currency in Dubai is the UAE Dirham – prices will usually say AED or Dhs. Each Dirham can be divided into 100 fils. The Dirham is pegged to the US Dollar ($1 = approx 3.6 AED). So if (as is the case at the time of writing) the pound is poor against the dollar then the pound will also be poor against Dirhams.TIP: don’t change your money in the UK before travelling. We’ve found that you tend to get a much better exchange rate if you wait until you get to Dubai before changing your pounds for Dirhams.
In Dubai Airport Terminal 3 there is actually an exchange desk before you even leave the baggage hall and the rates displayed there were already better than in the UK. However you are best waiting until you have left the airport. There are numerous banks and exchange shops around Deira and Bur Dubai, plus in the shopping malls. If changing a large amount then compare rates at a few before making your decision.
